Who we are

Dr Ganga Shreedhar, Lab Director

I am Assistant Professor in Behavioural Science at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and Co-Director of the MSc in Behavioural Science at the Dept. of Psychological and Behavioural Sciences.

I am an Associate at the Grantham Research Institute of Climate Change and the Environment (GRI), Affiliate at Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformations (CAST) and IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) and Commission on Education and Communication (CEC) Behaviour Change Task Force.

I broadly study how we understand and respond to complex systemic eco-dilemmas, like climate change and biodiversity loss and extinction. I am especially interested in people’s willingness to foster system transformations through individual and collective behaviour change and policy support, multi-level approaches to behavioural policy, and the role of creative interventions like storytelling. I enjoy collaborating with practitioners, activists and policymakers.

Anandita Sabherwal, PhD student

Ana is PhD student in social psychology and behavioural science at the LSE and the Grantham Research Institute of Climate Change and the Environment.

Her work investigates sources of social influence on pro-environmental behaviour. In particular, she studies how others’ motives influence our own judgements and actions. In another line of research she investigates how organisations can create a culture of sustainability in the workplace.

Daniele Pollicino, PhD student

Daniele is a PhD student in psychological and behavioural science at the LSE.

He is interested in applying behavioural science and psychological methods to the study of sustainable food consumption. His research project aims to understand how to nudge individuals to modify dietary behaviours in favour of more plant-based choices; in particular, he wishes to investigate the power of social norms to support such transition. The fight against global warming is at the core of his activities, both personal and academic.

Dallas Odell, PhD Student

Dallas is a PhD student in psychological and behavioural science at the LSE.

Her research integrates literature on reduced consumption with degrowth, a topic that has received little attention in psychology and behavioural science so far. She is interested in the role of the individual in bringing about system-level transformations for a more sustainable future, by making degrowth more personally relevant to consumption behaviours and lifestyles. Her projects focus on sufficiency promoting marketing as well as degrowth policy preferences.

Anomitro Chatterjee, LSE Fellow in Environmental Economics

Ano is an LSE Fellow and Associate at Grantham Research Institute, LSE. He uses experiments in the lab and field, and randomized control trials to address issues in resource management and energy efficiency policy. He received a Ph.D. from Georgia State University where his dissertation focused on social dilemmas; situations where individual incentives work against social welfare maximization. Prior to the doctoral program, Anomitro worked at The Energy and Resources Institute in New Delhi on energy security policy and energy access in India.

Laura Thomas-Walters, Postdoc & lab affiliate

Laura is a conservation social scientist with a focus on pro-environmental behaviour change. Recent research topics have included creating effective narratives to motivate dietary change, and understanding the relational barriers to becoming a climate activist. Until March, she was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Stirling, working with Professor Nils Bunnefeld on experimental video games as a research and behaviour change tool. Currently she is a Senior Advisor in the Strategic Behavioural Insights Team, part of the UK government’s environmental department. She conducts research on a wide variety of environmental topics to provide evidence to policy teams.

Patricia Freitag,

Research Associate

Patricia is a Research Associate at both the London School of Economics and the University of Michigan. She currently conducts research in Environmental Economics and climate change policies in the MENA region as well as in Adaptive Sports Psychology. Her background is in Development Economics and Political Theory, having worked on projects across the world from Mexico to Mozambique. Research topics include: religious festival spending, knowledge acquisition and social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the demise of liberalism.

Katarzyna Mikolajczak, Postdoc

Kasia is an interdisciplinary conservation scientist. She is a Research Officer (Conservation and Behaviour) at Grantham Research Institute and forestLAB. She also serves as a vice-chair of the Conservation Ecology Special Interest Group at the British Ecological Society .

Her interests lie at the nexus between social and ecological sciences, with the aim of improving biodiversity conservation to benefit both people and nature.
